Crochet wrist lace cuffs: Materials

Yarn Substitutions

  • Lion Brand Wool-Ease — a widely available wool/acrylic blend and a good general substitute.
  • Berroco Vintage — DK/light #3, machine-washable acrylic/wool blend; good for garments.
  • Berroco Vintage Baby — DK/light #3, 52% acrylic, 40% wool, 8% nylon, with a 4 mm crochet recommendation.
  • Knit Picks Brava 300 — 100% acrylic, DK/light #3; a good budget-friendly alternative.
  • Premier Basix DK — 100% acrylic, Light #3/DK.
  • Premier Value Bag DK Acrylic — Light #3/DK, 100% acrylic, 306 yd per 100 g.
  • Premier Colorfusion DK — Light #3, 100% acrylic, 325 yd per 100 g.

Moreover, this is an important note.

Different yarn brands can vary slightly in thickness and drape, even if they are labeled as the same weight. Before starting your project, crochet a gauge swatch and adjust your hook size if needed to achieve the correct measurements. Mercerized cotton yarns are recommended for this pattern because they provide excellent stitch definition, durability, and a beautiful drape that enhances the lace design.

Crochet wrist lace cuffs: gauge

Before Blocking

10 sc × 11 rows = 2 in × 2 in in the ribbing

Important: Gauge was measured on the unblocked fabric. The fabric relaxes and expands slightly in both width and length after steam blocking.

Crochet wrist lace cuffs: construction

Each cuff is crocheted flat from the bottom up as follows:

– Work bottom ribbing in a long strip.

– Work body into the edge of the bottom ribbing.

Crochet wrist lace cuffs: pattern

1. Wrist Ribbing

Foundation chain: Ch 17.
To adjust the width of the wrist ribbing, you can start with Ch 15, 17, or 19 instead. A longer starting chain creates wider ribbing and a looser fit around the wrist.
Row 1: Sc in the 2nd ch from the hook and in each ch across.
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, sc in the back loop only (BLO) of each st across.
Rows 3–32: Repeat Row 2.
Continue working the ribbing until you reach your desired length. You can adjust the number of rows to fit your wrist comfortably. For this pattern, it is best to finish with an even number of rows so the ribbing can be joined neatly.
Fit tip: The ribbing should fit snugly around your wrist. If you are using acrylic yarn, it is okay for the ribbing to feel slightly snug, as acrylic yarn can stretch with wear. However, avoid making it too tight. If you are using a different type of yarn, check its stretch and drape before deciding on the fit.

Once the ribbing is complete, fold it in half with the wrong side facing out. Slip stitch the short edges together to form a loop, working through the front loop of one edge and the back loop of the other edge.

Turn the ribbing so that the right side is facing up, and begin working around the opening. Each row of the ribbing counts as one stitch. The total number of ribbing rows should be even.

Round 1: Join the yarn with a slip stitch to the first row of the ribbing. Ch 4 (counts as the first dc and ch 1), then work 1 dc into the same stitch to form the first V-stitch. *Ch 1, skip 1 stitch, and work (dc, ch 1, dc) into the next stitch. Repeat from * to * around. Sl st to the 3rd ch of the beginning ch-4 to join.

Round 2: Sl st into the next ch-1 space, positioning your hook in the center of the V-stitch from the previous round. Ch 1, sc in the same space. *Ch 5, skip the next 3 stitches, and sc into the next ch-1 space at the center of the next V-stitch from the previous round. Repeat from * to * around. Sl st to the first sc to join.

Round 3: Sl st into the next ch-5 space. Ch 3, then work 2 dc into the same ch-5 space. *Ch 2, skip the sc from the previous round, and work (sc, ch 3, sc) into the next ch-5 space. Ch 2, skip the next sc, and work 3 dc into the next ch-5 space. Repeat from * to * around. Ch 2, skip the last sc, and sl st to the 3rd ch of the beginning ch-3 to join.

Round 4: Ch 4 (counts as the first dc and ch 1), then work (dc, ch 1, dc) into the same stitch. *Ch 1, then work 1 dc into the next stitch. Ch 1, skip 9 stitches, then work dc, ch 1, (dc, ch 1, dc) into the same stitch, ch 1, and dc into the next stitch. Repeat from * to * around. Ch 1, then sl st to the 3rd ch of the beginning ch-4 to join.

Round 5: *Work dc2tog into the next ch-1 space, ch 1 to close the stitch, ch 1, and skip the next stitch. Ch 1, skip the next stitch, work dc2tog into the next ch-1 space, and ch 1 to close the stitch. Skip the next stitch and sc into the following stitch. Repeat from * to * around. Skip the next stitch and sc into the last stitch.

Round 6: Ch 5 (counts as the first dc and ch 2), skip the next 3 stitches, and work 1 sc, (sc, ch 3, sc) into the next ch-1 space from the previous round, and 1 sc. *Ch 2, skip the next 3 stitches, and work 1 dc. Ch 2, skip the next 3 stitches, work 1 sc, (sc, ch 3, sc) into the next ch-1 space from the previous round, and 1 sc. Ch 2, skip the next 3 stitches and work 1 dc. Repeat from * to * around.
