The Aspen Crochet Pillow Cover is a beautiful addition to your handmade home decor collection. Using only single and double crochets, this beginner friendly design looks complicated, but is quite simple. The stitch pattern I have chosen provides texture and comfort, while looking intricate and stylish. I have designed this free crochet pattern to be a straightforward project, ideal for crocheters of all skill levels.
Easy Maintenance
To ensure softness and minimal stretch, I have used cotton yarn. The durability of this yarn provides elegance and easy maintenance – keeping your pillow cover looking great for years to come. The Aspen Crochet Pillow Cover pattern is designed to overlap so that you can pull it open and remove the pillow. This allows you to wash that crochet pillow cover. Which means you can actually use it around the house.
Elevate Your Home Decor
What’s great about The Aspen Crochet Pillow Cover pattern is that you can make it any size that you want. I chose to make a 19 ″ in by 19″ in, but you could make it bigger or smaller. All you have to do is add or subtract your initial amount of chains. This simple, modern project will add style and take your home decor to the next level. It is the perfect beginner friendly pattern for those who want a quick and simple project. I have taken the time to provide a video tutorial to accompany the written pattern. Aspen Crochet Pillow Cover: Adjustment Info
For this pillow I started with 54 chains. However, if you want to make a larger version all you have to do is measure how many chains fit per inch and then multiply that number by how many inches you want your pillow to be. You will need to take the multiple of the stitch into account. So for this stitch the multiple is 2. So if you get an odd number, add 1 to it, to make it even.
This crochet pillow case is worked flat, in one long rectangle. The pillow cover is designed to overlap the pillow in an envelope fold. This makes the pillow removable and the crochet pillowcase washable.

Aspen Crochet Pillow Cover: Assembly
- Cut yarn. Wrap fabric around pillow. Fold excess down over pillow to form the envelope flap.
- Pin along edges to secure. Join yarn with a sl st to upper corner. Sl st down edge, be sure to go through the two layers, only to secure the envelope flap. Then fold the fabric on the opposite side and sl st down edge.
- I chose to create a visible seam by slip stitching on the inside. You can slip stitch all the way around the pillow or use the yarn needle and seam together sides.
Aspen Crochet Pillow Cover: Optional Tassels
Using the same yarn, wrap the yarn around a 6” book 62 times. Tie a piece of yarn around the top of the bundle and cut the other end. Tie a second piece of yarn an inch from the top of the bundle and trim the bottom strands. Add a bead to the top piece of yarn and tie securely to the corner of the pillow. Make four tassels for each pillow.
And then, once the tassels are on… your pillow is complete! I could see this looking great in so many colors. Hope you liked this pattern! If you end up completing one, do please snap a pic and share with me over on Instagram as Yelena Style Crochet. I’d love to admire it.
