Ch 45 (or a multiple of 3 for base chain)
Row 1: Sc into 6th ch from hook, *ch 2, sk 2, 1sc in next ch*, rep until eor.
Row 2: Ch 3, turn, 1dc in same st, *sk 2, 3dc in next st*, rep until 5 st rem, sk 2 and 2dc in next st.
Row 3: Ch 1, turn, sc in same st, *ch 2, sk 2, 1sc in next st* rep until eor.
Row 4: Rep Row 2
Row 5: Rep Row 3
Row 6: Rep Row 2
Row 7, 9, 11, 13… [odd number]: Rep Row 3

I made 17 rows for pockets. This may vary depending on what yarn type and hook size you use.

Border of Pockets
Row 1: Ch 1, 1sc in each sp all around your pocket, sl st to 1st ch sp.
On top of the pockets make another 2 rows of sc. (3 rows total)
Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing your pockets onto your shawl.
Sew your pockets onto your shawl:
Place your 1st pocket onto the right side of your shawl, making sure you are placing it as follows.
Measure 1 inch (2 cm) from the bottom edge, and place your pockets there, making sure you place it at the center. With long tail of yarn, sew your pockets onto project.

Crochet Pocket Shawl: Border
Attach your yarn to any st of your shawl.
Row 1: Ch 1, 1sc in each sp all around your shawl, sl st to 1st ch sp.
Row 2: Ch 3, 1dc in each sc from the previous row, sl st to ch 3 from beginning of row.
Row 3: Sc around, sl st to join.
Fasten off and loose ends.
