Nothing beats a cozy crochet vest for those cool winter days. I designed this textured vest to be suitable for crocheters of all skill levels. Wear it over a blouse, tank top or long sleeve shirt. I chose Lion Brand’s Pound of Love 100% acrylic yarn, but you can substitute any weight 4 yarn. Just remember to use the correct hook size to obtain gauge. This pattern is as versatile as it is stylish. Try pairing it with my Fingerless Gloves for a warm, cozy look in the cooler months.
Construction
This vest is worked in 2 separate panels that are sewn together upon completion. The border for the armpits is worked after being sewn together. It is important that the neckline has the same number of stitches on both sides. This ensures your vest lines up correctly when sewn together and fits properly. When the vest is complete, it will be blocked using wet blocking. This pattern is written for a size large, for alternative sizing, see the chart below.

Back Panel
Start with ribbing:
Ch 53 (size L)
Row 1: Dc into 4th ch from hook, dc in each st across.
Row 2: Ch 3, turn, FPDC to the next dc ,BPDC in the next st, *FPDC, BPDC*, rep * *.
Row 3: Rep Row 2.
You will now turn your work and crochet along the edge of the ribbing.
Panel:
Row 4: Ch 1, turn, sc in same st, sc across.
Row 5: Ch 1, turn, sc in same st, *sc3tog, ch 1 – using the last st you worked and the next 2 st*, rep until last st, ch 1 and sc in same st.
Row 6: Ch 1, turn, sc in same st, *sc3tog, ch 1 – using the last st you worked and the next 2 st*, rep until last st, ch 1 and sc into the last st.
Row 7 to Row 32: Rep Row 6.
Row 33 [Decreasing]: Ch 1, turn, (do not sc in same st), *sc3tog, ch 1 – using first st and the next 2 st*, rep until last st, ch 1, (do not sc in last st).
Row 34, 35: Rep Row 33
Row 36 to Row 55: Rep Row 6

Front Panel
Ch 53 (size L)
Repeat same pattern as back panel to Row 46.
Neckline
Start the row from the edge going to center.
Row 47: Ch 1, turn, sc in same st, *sc3tog, ch 1 – using the last st you worked and the next 2 st*, rep 6 times.
Row 48: Ch 1, turn, (do not sc in first st), *sc3tog, ch 1 – using the first st and the next 2 st* rep until last st, ch 1 and sc into the last st.
Row 49 to Row 55: Rep Row 6.
Repeat for opposite side.
Attach yarn to the first st. starting from the edge to center.
For the neckline it’s important for the number of stitches in both sides to be the same.

Attach yarn in any stitch.
Row 1: Ch 1, sc across.
Row 2: Ch 3, turn, dc in 2nd st, dc across..
Row 3: Ch 3, FPDC in next st, BPDC in the next st, *alternate FPDC, BPDC* rep * *.
Row 4: Rep Row 3.
Tie off, weave in ends.
Crochet Vest Assembly
- Lay both pieces together with the wrong sides facing up.
- Start from shoulders and sew.
- Sew from bottom of the side and sew up along until armpit.
- Fasten off, weave in ends.

Attach yarn in any stitch.
Row 1: Ch 1, sc ard, sl st to join.
Row 2: Ch 3, dc in 2nd st, dc ard, sl st to join.
Row 3: Ch 3, FPDC around next st , BPDC around next st, *alternate FPDC, BPDC across*, rep * *, sl st to join.
Row 4: Rep Row 3.
Tie off, weave in ends.
