The Madilyn Crochet Cardigan – Free Pattern & Video Tutorial

My latest beginner friendly creation is the enchanting Madilyn Crochet Cardigan pattern. This delightful creation weaves simplicity and elegance together. This pattern is written for a size large, but I have included instructions to adjust the size. The Suzette Stitch is reversible – meaning both sides will look exactly the same! I used pink for this tutorial, but feel free to try any colorway you want. I have also included a video tutorial to help you through the pattern.

  • To adjust size, be sure to keep chain in multiples of 2

Size adjustments

The base chain is multiple of 2:

  • Small: Ch 50
  • Medium: Ch 52
  • Large: Ch 54 [written pattern]
  • XL: Ch 56
  • XXL: Ch 58

Back Panel

Ch 54

Row 1: (1sc, 1dc) in the 2nd ch from hook, sk 1, *(1sc, 1dc), sk 1*, rep until end eor, 1sc in last st.

Row 2: Ch 1, turn, (1sc, 1dc), sk 1, *(1sc, 1dc), sk 1*, rep until eor, 1sc in last st.

Row 3 to Row 47: Rep Row 2



The Madilyn Crochet Cardigan: Front Panels

Make 2

Start chain

  • Small: Ch 18
  • Medium: Ch 20
  • Large: Ch 22 [written pattern]
  • XL: Ch 24
  • XXL: Ch 26

Ch 22

Repeat the same pattern as back panel.

Add more rows to the back and front panels until you have reached your desired length.


The Madilyn Crochet Cardigan: Sleeves & Ribbing

Make 2

Sleeve Ribbing

Ch 10

Row 1: Sc in the 2nd st, 1sc in next 8 st. 

Row 2: Ch 1, turn, sc in BLO to eor

Row 3 to Row 27: Rep Row 2.

Make as many rows you need for your wrist measurements. It has to be an odd number. 

Size Adjustments:

  • Small: 27 rows
  • Medium/Large: 29 rows
  • XL: 29 rows
  • XXL: 31 rows
  • XXXL: 31 rows

Sleeves

To start the sleeves you will sc around the edge of the ribbing.

Number of stitches for each size:

  • Small: 27
  • Medium: 29
  • Large: 29
  • XL: 31
  • XXL: 31
  • XXXL: 31

Row 1: Ch 1, 1sc in each st around edge of ribbing. (29)

Row 2: Ch 1, turn, (1sc, 1dc), sk 1, *(1sc, 1dc), sk 1*, rep until eor, 1sc in last st.

Row 3 to Row 7: Rep Row 2

Now we begin to increase

Row 8: (2sc, 1dc), sk 1, *(1sc, 1dc), sk 1*, rep until eor, 2sc in last st.

Row 9 and 10: Rep Row 2

Row 11: Rep Row 8

Row 12: Rep Row 2

Row 13: Rep Row 8

Row 14 to Row 20: Rep Row 2

Row 21: Rep Row 8

Row 22 to Row 26: Rep Row 2

Row 27: Rep Row 8

Row 28: Rep Row 2

Row 29: Rep Row 8

Row 30 to Row 38: Rep Row 2

Row 39: Rep Row 8

Row 40, 41: Rep Row 2.

If you want the sleeves to be shorter, make less rows.



Body Ribbing

Ch 10

Row 1: Sc in the 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 8 st. (9)
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, sc in the back loop only until eor.
Row 3 to Row 149: Rep Row 2.

Assembly

1. Lay all the pieces together with the wrong sides facing up.
2. Start from shoulders and sew.
3. Sew the sleeves.
4. Sew from bottom of the side and sew up along until armpit and continue under sleeves and finish. 
5. Sew the body ribbing.
